Interviews about - Graphic Design
The Interviewer: Ahmed Elmasry

Evermotion was founded in 1998 by Krzysztof M. Kundzicz alias PENdzel, in Polish city, Bialystok. And now, our portal is one of the biggest over the CG world and it concentrates all CG fans all over the world. Since the beginning Evermotion have earned a stable position in world CG market and thousands of customers trusted our perfect quality and brand.

Evermotion creates and devolops products that help CG artists in making 3d visualizations by speeding up your workflow and enlarging quality level. Finally, in order to bring additional financial benefits. Why waste costly time for making something that you can have from Evermotion?
Besides this we always help CG fans with their journey through third dimension world, and we share all knowledge we have.

1.    How did it all start and where did the name "Evermotion" come from?

PENdzel: I was bored working in the daily newspaper. I was doing 3D for myself, but I decided to get interested in 3D graphics a little more seriously. I invited to cooperate my friends - Pawel Mierzynski and Marcin Kielbowicz (IT), with the idea to create a team, and to develop the activity - all that was made so quickly and without a plan, so the first trial failed.
In 2001 I tried again. Supported by the earlier experiences and with better abilities, I started to look for graphic artists.
I sent messages to all friends that I'm looking for 3D graphics, and I found Gabriel Wigierski. Together we made the first work - "The King of Death." At the competition on max3d.pl we became controversial - no one before hasn’t made the work together.
Some even wanted to disqualify us necessarily. In the meantime they started talking about us. We decided to create a simple site with free tutorials for rendering done on the Vray demo.
And the server broke down because of the enters and downloads amount. Again was loudly about us. We started to do tutorials. Our team became bigger - Pawel Gajlewicz and Damian Bajowski joined us, so we were in four. It was a cool time, unfortunately without clashes... Sorry, I’m talkative again :)

PG: If you want to know how I joined the Ever team, I can tell you… I received message from a guy which I didn’t know before. He asked if I know how to do 3D. Later another one asked me the same. I was after-graduated, humble boy. I thought – what they want from me?!  After about 3 weeks I overcame my doubts and we met. I came for the meeting and I see a guy on leather jacket, with long hair and with sunglasses (it was rainy day!). I was very surprised :)

Working together we didn’t want to waste our little achieve – we wanted to work more and more. Not everyone keep up - Mime and Gabriel did not believed much enough in the success of Ever – they thought that we’re doing too many tutorials and earning too little. Our cooperation ended, but they also earned a profit in this experience - they work in a big company in Warsaw, which name I can’t even say. After that, Adas Kozlowski joined us and we started to transform the non-commercial success in a commercial venture. Then we started to recruit workers.

PENdzel: where did the name "Evermotion" come from? I wrote a list of words associated with animation. Then I removed those words which I don’t see for company name. And Evermotion was the only one that I like. :)

How large is your team and what are your their backgrounds?

Adam: Now we have 25 employee, all from Poland. We expand our team quickly by employing artists with great skills and imagination potential.

What software program(s) do you use for your CG and why?

We use 3ds Max, Cinema 4d, z-brush, Photoshop and almost all renderers which you can find on our market. We use Max because most of our customers is using Max for create visualizations.

Are you guys thinking about developing a plugin for 3dsmax or something like that? if yes, could you please tell us about it?

Of course, we are working now on our own renderer. Considering the development of computing power, we want to base it on a physical solutions. We want to release artists from learning complicated settings from Mental or Vray, we want to create a render which is taking control of the settings and set all by itself. The artist can spend more time on the nature of the scene, light arrangement and other details.
We also finished work on multifunctional internet communicator and few games, mostly free available. We plan as well development of games production section.

There are tons of Warez Sites that illegally offer your products for free, Does that ruin your business or do you consider it as a kind of product marketing?

It’s obvious that this is a financial nightmare, which causes to 90% financial losses. If there were no piracy, we might be a bigger studio, because all financial surpluses we are putting into hiring new people and making new products, like games or internet communicator.

How do you see "Evermotion" heading in the next 10 years?

The key to the success is a big team and financial stability, especially in the time of crisis, which is slowly beginning to touch the 3D industry. We want to do a lot of things. Collection of tools for the architects provides us with only a financial background.

Mac or PC? why?

In 3D PC’s are the most popular. We are working mostly on PC’s, but we are not treating hardware enthusiastic. It’s only a work tool, it doesn’t matter on what kind of system it is based.

Anything else you would like to say to our readers.

Using the occasion, we would like to warmly greet them :D  we invite to visit our website, which will have a new look soon. It will be a website with many interesting improvements and news - better integration of communities and, in the future, possibility of obtaining some licenses or a collections for free. But about that you will know soon…
